Superstorm Sandy swept through the east coast in October and affected everything and everyone in its path, hitting the tri-state area particularly hard. Many communities were devastated with loss of property and most heart wrenching-loss of life. Bridal Reflections was lucky to have only suffered loss of power, phone and internet. Some of our brides and employees suffered tremendous losses. Even the Micari family, owners of Bridal Reflections were displaced from their homes.
The week Sandy hit we had many fittings and pickups; some for weddings that weekend. Brides even questioned if their weddings would go on! Phone lines were down and many of our clients cell phones lost battery. We turned to social media as an alternative means to communicate. We worked tirelessly to fit brides in the dark by flashlight and had seamstresses working out of a home nearby that miraculously had power. It was amazing to see the team really come together in an effort to ensure not one bride be disappointed. Some employees were dealing with their own losses but still came in to lend a helping hand.
Our friend John Salkowsky at Silverfox, a Lindenhurst wedding photography company approached us with an idea to help other Long Islanders in need. Salkowsky started the Wedding Rescue Team consisting of local wedding industry vendors to give a dream wedding to one lucky long island couple who was affected by Hurricane Sandy. The donations have reaching about $27,000 and will include the gown (donated by Bridal Reflections), venue, flowers and more. Some the other participating vendors include Westbury Manor, Pedestals Floral Decorators, All Star Limousines, Town & Country Tuxedos and more!
To enter couples must answer a series of questions by January 18th. The public will be able to vote on the three finalists. Please visit weddingrescueteam.com to enter to win a dream wedding!
