Tatiana and Andrew’s Love Story: My husband and I met in Cyprus while on vacation in the summer of 2018. We are both Greek Cypriot, so would travel to Cyprus most summers. The big difference is that he was travelling to Cyprus from his home country of England, and I was travelling from New York where I lived.

We met at a beach club about five days before our vacations were over. We spent our last few days together and left the island with a pinky promise that we would keep in touch.

Andrew and I spent every day messaging each other while we were at work and then speaking on the phone when we would get home. Our weekends were spent speaking on the phone for hours and hours. Andrew visited me in New York three time in four months. On Valentines Day 2019 I visited him in England and he popped the question.

We were engaged after 6 months of long-distance dating. Andrew moved to New York in April 2019. We planned our wedding for May 16th, 2020. It was supposed to be at a venue on Long Island, NY. Obviously our plans changed because of Covid and we postponed to Thanksgiving Eve of 2020. We canceled that date once again and decided to have a destination wedding in Cyprus since that is where we met and we have a lot of our family and friends that live there or go there for the summers.

Everything was set for July 31st 2021. Three weeks before our wedding, Cyprus had the worst wildfires in history. Our wedding venue was damaged in the wildfire but thankfully everyone was safe. We had three weeks to look for a new church and venue with everyone already set and booked to travel for our wedding. Luckily the church in my father’s village of Athienou was available for the same date as well as a venue in the village. In the end, having the wedding in the village where my father was born and raised made the day more special and sentimental. We had about 300 guests from New York, England, Cyprus and Australia.
